Chicago/2003
August 30-September 3,2003
Saturday
We arrived to Chicago early on Saturday and after dropping our luggage at the hotel, we went out to eat lunch. We were looking for something fast and simple to eat. We ended up going to Rosebud's, a very cool and fancy Italian place. After that, we walked a little in the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Ave) and around the Hancock building.

For dinner, we went out with our friends Federico and Anna, who live in Chicago. We went to the same place they took us to last time we were there: El Iberico, a Spanish restaurant. In there, we ordered several tapas and sangria and tried a little bit of everything. Federico and Anna brought along an Aussie friend, what what his name?... After dinner we took him to his place and went to Federico and Anna's new apartment, where we had coffee and Russian chocolates.
Sunday
On Sunday we went to the Art Institute and spent there a few hours. At the end, we stopped in the museum store and did some shopping there. When we left it was raining. We ran to a coffee shop waiting for it to stop with no luck. From there we took a bus to the Water Tower.

In the afternoon, we walked to Marina City. The two towers that look like corn on the cob. It was windy and rainy. We bought and umbrella, which turned inside out just in time to make it to the picture (but it was so dark that it is not noticeable.)

We had dinner at Gino's pizza. This is the same place that we went two years ago. The line to get in to the restaurant was as long as last time, but this time we knew that we could get to the bar and order from there. That's a trick for the locals :)
Monday
Monday was Labor Day. There were supposed to be lots of festivals and things to do that day. However, it was raining and a lot of outdoor activities were canceled. We spent the morning running from one shop to another looking for shelter from the rain. We actually went to Shabby Chick.
At night we went out with Federico and Anna. They drove us around the city, and took us to see different neighborhoods of Chicago (Italian, Greek, Mexican, Asian, Gay.) We also saw the famous Wrigley Stadium where the Chicago Cubs play. We had dinner on a Mexican restaurant.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we walked from the hotel to downtown, to see where Hector's presentation was going to be. That day we took pictures of some of the beautiful buildings that are around the downtown area.

The Rookery Building

We went back to the hotel and got ready for Hector's presentation. The presentation was in the evening and went very well.

Hector's presentation was in this building
We went for dinner to a (yet another) Spanish restaurant. Had more tapas, sangrias, and dessert and went back to bed happy as clams.
